LESSON OVERVIEW
WEEK:: ONE
This week, kids hear about how an angel appeared to Mary and Joseph separately to tell them about the baby Jesus.
BIG IDEA - We can celebrate God's plan.
THE BIBLE: Mary and Joseph: Luke 1:26-38; Matthew 1:18-24
INSTRUCTIONS: Look up the story in your Bible.
Can anyone tell me why we celebrate Christmas? Yep! Because that's when we celebrate Jesus being born!
Before Jesus was born, Jesus' parents were living pretty normal lives. They were not married yet when an angel appeared to Mary. The angel's name was Gabriel. Gabriel said, "Do not be afraid, Mary. God has blessed you in a very special way. You are going to have a baby and you will give him the name, Jesus."
Mary was very confused at first. How was she going to have a baby? Gabriel explained to Mary that whatever God says will come true. Mary was a faithful follower to God and said, "May it happen to me just as you said it would."
Some time later, Joseph was visited by an angel in a dream while he was sleeping. Joseph was worried about Mary and the baby. But the angel told Joseph that Mary's baby was indeed God's Son, so he didn't need to be afraid!
God had a plan to bring Jesus to Earth and Mary and Joseph were blessed to be a part of God's plan. Aren't we glad that God's plan is perfect and always works out?

If Jesus is the firstborn of all creation, what does that make you and me? Yeah! We are part of Jesus' family! And as part of Jesus' family, we try to live in such a way that our lives and the choices we make point back to God.
What are some ways your actions and decisions point to God?
In verse 17, it mentions in Jesus, all things are held together. All of this was true even when Jesus was a little baby!
Toddler ACTIVITY | “Greatest Treasure”
INSTRUCTIONS: Print the "Greatest Treasure" activity sheets for each kid. Instruct the kids to trace the path on the activity sheet, following Mary and Joseph on their path from Nazareth to Bethlehem. Once the path has been traced, look and see what they have drawn!
PRAYER
God, thank You for asking us to be a part of Your story like Mary and Joseph. Please help us to be ready when you show us what our next steps with You are. We want to celebrate Your plan and be a part of Your story. Thank You for letting us join You every time You guide us and speak to us. In Jesus' name, amen!

SERIES OVERVIEW:
People say music is the universal language, something everyone loves in one form or another, and a way we can communicate shared emotion and experience even across generations, culture, location, backgrounds, and traditions. Much of what is expressed in the book of Psalm are things we experience and feel today. Because of that, we can learn a lot about God and ourselves in these Psalms. When kids can claim these five things – I am wonderful because God made me; I am safe because God watches over me; I am confident because God leads me; I am forgiven because God loves me; I am not afraid because God can be trusted – they will be unstoppable in their life with God!
