Seedlings Families,

This week we are teaching preschoolers that they can help their friends. In John 13:1-20 we learn about how Jesus washed the feet of His disciples the same night He would be betrayed. Jesus shocked His disciples by doing such a lowly job, but in doing so, He was teaching them the manner in which we are to love and serve one another—with humility. We can follow His example in our own relationships.

This week we are talking about helping and serving. Allow your preschoolers to try carrying dishes to the table, sweeping, or picking up around your home. Encourage and thank them for their help, reminding them that we can be like Jesus and help our friends.

Sprouts + Rooted Families,

We’re celebrating community this November with our theme Get Connected and teaching kids that God made them for community. In John 13:1-20 we learn about how Jesus washed the feet of His disciples on the same night He would be betrayed. Jesus shocked His disciples by doing such a lowly job, but in doing so, He was teaching them the manner in which we are to love and serve one another—with humility.

Write How Can I Help You? on index cards, sticky notes, or small pieces of paper. Give everyone in your family (adults included) two or three cards. Encourage each other to use the cards at random times during the week. When someone gives you a card, think of a way to invite that person to help you. Teach your kids that community is stronger and better when we help our friends.

Nov. 3rd Seedlings:: I Can Pray for My Friends

Simple Truth: God Gives Me Friends
Theme Verse: “Consider others as more important than yourselves.” (Philippians 2:3b)
Big Deal: Hey, Hi, Hello! God Gives Me Friends
Bible Story: Peter’s Friends Prayed (Acts 12:1-17)

Families,

We’re ready to say Hey, Hi, Hello this November as we teach preschoolers the Simple Truth, “God Gives Me Friends.” God made us for community, and preschoolers will explore and discover that we can pray for, help, cheer on, and learn from our friends.

This week preschoolers will learn that I can pray for my friends. In Acts 12:1-17, a follower of Jesus named Peter was imprisoned for telling others about Jesus. The night before he was to be executed, Peter’s friends prayed diligently to God for him. As Peter’s friends prayed, an angel came and freed Peter, leading him to safety and to his friends. Preschoolers can know that we can pray for our friends and ask God to help them.

This week, as you sit down to eat as a family or as you drive in the car, remind your preschoolers that we can talk to God and pray for our friends. Talk about friends you can pray for as a family, then stop and pray for these friends.

B)    A friend I want to grow deeper with

C)    A friend who needs to hear the good news of Jesus

Pray: Thank You, God, that You hear my prayers. Thank You that I can talk to You about the needs of my friends and know that You listen and respond. Help me be consistent in praying for my friends. Amen.

Connect: What is an amazing answer to prayer you’ve heard about or seen? How does that encourage you when it comes to prayer?

Seedlings Oct. 13th - Session 2: I Can Be Forgiven

Simple Truth: God Forgives Me

Theme Verse: “I will forgive their wrongdoing.” (Hebrews 8:12a)

Big Deal: 1-2-3! God Forgives Me

Bible Story: Jacob and Esau (Genesis 27–33)

Families,

All month long we are teaching preschoolers that God forgives us, and this week they will learn the Main Idea, “I Can Be Forgiven.” In our Bible story from Genesis 27–33, preschoolers will learn about two brothers, Jacob and Esau. Jacob lied, cheated, and stole from his twin brother, Esau. Jacob ended up running away because he was afraid of Esau. Years later, when God told Jacob to return home, he found that Esau had forgiven him. We can know that, no matter what, God will forgive our sin because He wants to have a new friendship with us.

Use the editing feature on your phone or tablet to cover over a picture with a bunch of scribbles. Then turn on the eraser function and invite your preschoolers to remove the scribbles and reveal the picture. Talk about how our wrong choices can make things seem sad or make us feel worried, but God knows our wrong choices, and He forgives them!
